Ultrasound vs CT for detecting Appendicitis in children

According to a recent study published in the American Journal of Roentgenology, ultrasound gives comparable outcomes with less radiation and without increasing the length of stay(LOS) at the hospital in children with appendicitis.
Appendicitis is one of the conditions with very common occurring in children in the U.S.
CT abdomen being the gold standard for the diagnosis for Appendicitis. Physicians are moving to ultrasound as the first diagnostic modality to detect appendicitis, minimal radiation being a significant factor for the transition.
